How Much Money do Amazon Flex Drivers Make?

Amazon Flex is a gig app that allows individuals to work as independent contractors, delivering packages for Amazon. As a Flex driver, you’ll use your own vehicle to pick up packages from Amazon warehouses and deliver them to customers in your area. So, how much money can you earn delivering packages for Amazon out of your own personal vehicle?

Amazon Flex drivers can earn a base pay ranging from $18-$25 per hour. This base pay varies depending on factors such as location, time of day, and block length. However, some Amazon regions and warehouses pay more than others.

For example, I deliver out of the greater Philadelphia region, and my base pay is $22 per hour. However, it is important to know that you are able to earn significantly more than the base rate by simply reserving surge blocks. Surges can add anywhere from 25-50% more earnings to your block!

Surges are spikes in base pay because the demand for delivery drivers is currently greater than the supply. And these surges can happen each and every day. I reserved a 5-hr surge block today for $130, which is $20 over my region’s base pay. Never settle for base pay when you can earn more.

Especially since you are really earning less than the base pay rate when factoring in expenses like gas and long-term vehicle maintenance. As an independent contractor, you’re responsible for covering your own expenses, such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and other business expenses. So always hold out for more money if you can.

The flexibility of this gig allows you to choose when and how often you work, but the availability of delivery blocks may impact your overall earnings. Seasonality greatly affects the availability of blocks and thereby your earnings potential.

So, to sum it up, Amazon Flex drivers can earn a base pay between $18 to $25 per hour depending on your market. And surge pay between $28 to $35 per hour. However, it’s crucial to factor in expenses and deductions to get a clearer picture of your net income.
