Amazon Flex Driver Requirements

I’ve been delivering packages for Amazon since Fall of 2019, going into my fourth holiday season as a Flex driver. And if you’re interested in joining Amazon Flex as an independent contractor, these are the eligibility requirements needed to deliver packages for Amazon out of your own personal vehicle:

1️⃣First, you must be at least 21 years old and have an iPhone or Android smartphone. Amazon requires drivers to be 21 years of age to ensure responsibility and compliance with all regulations.

Only Apple’s IOS or Android devices are compatible with the Amazon Flex app. Make sure your smartphone meets the minimum system requirements and has reliable cell service to ensure a smooth experience when delivering packages.

2️⃣Second, you need a valid driver's license and social security number. The driver’s license is an obvious requirement because you will be operating a vehicle to deliver packages. So, make sure your driver’s license is in good standing and not expired. And the social security number is needed to verify your identity and work authorization and possible background check.

3️⃣Third, Amazon requires a background check to ensure the safety and trustworthiness of their drivers. This check typically includes criminal history, driving records, and other relevant information.

4️⃣Lastly, Amazon has specific vehicle requirements that drivers must meet. Amazon requires a mid-size 4-door sedan or larger vehicle, like an SUV, van or truck with a covered bed. However, the larger the vehicle, the less profitable, you will be delivering packages. But more on that in an upcoming blog post.

Once you meet all these requirements, the sign-up process is pretty smooth and easy. And you’ll be accepting blocks in no time! This process usually takes two to five days but can take longer if there are any issues with missing or incomplete information.
